Updating Your ctcLink Phone Number Does Not Update Two-Factor Authentication

Overview

Your ctcLink contact phone number and your two-factor authentication phone number are stored in separate places.

If you change your phone number in your ctcLink profile, the phone number used to verify your identity when signing in will not automatically change. You must update both locations separately.

What Is the Difference?

ctcLink Contact Phone Number

The phone number in your ctcLink profile is part of your personal contact information. The college may use this number when it needs to contact you.

You can view or update this number by going to:

  1. Sign in to ctcLink.
  2. Open the Student Homepage.
  3. Select Profile.
  4. Select Contact Details.
  5. Add or update your phone number.
  6. Select Save.

Two-Factor Authentication Phone Number

Two-factor authentication, also called 2FA or MFA, helps protect your ctcLink and Canvas accounts. It may send a text message or another verification request when you sign in.

This security information is managed through your Okta account settings, not through your ctcLink contact information.

Important

Changing your phone number in your ctcLink profile does not change the number used for two-factor authentication.

For example, if you receive a new phone number:

  • Update your contact phone number in your ctcLink profile.
  • Update or add a security method in your Okta account settings.

If you update only your ctcLink profile, verification codes may still be sent to your old phone number.

How to Update Your Two-Factor Authentication Methods

  1. Go to wwcc.edu.
  2. Select Login.
  3. Select ctcLink Desktop.
  4. Sign in with your ctcLink ID and password.
  5. If asked, select Walla Walla Community College.
  6. On the ctcLink Gateway page, find Manage Okta Account Settings.
  7. Select Okta Portal.
  8. Select your name in the upper-right corner.
  9. Select Settings.
  10. Find the Security Methods section.
  11. Add or update your authentication methods.

Recommended Security Methods

We recommend setting up at least two authentication methods. This gives you another way to sign in if your phone is lost, replaced, or unavailable.

Recommended options include:

  • Okta Verify
  • Google Authenticator
  • A security token provided by Technology Services when an authentication app cannot be used

Need Help?
